Disclaimer
Please read this carefully. The Clearing, including every letter, guide, conversation, and working tool we publish — among them Fern (the educational guide for Medicare, introduced as GRACE during beta) — is intended to help you think. It is not a substitute for professional advice, and using it does not create any kind of professional relationship between you and us. Fern is an educational guide from The Clearing. The Clearing is not an insurance agency, brokerage, carrier, or plan. Fern does not sell, recommend, compare, or enroll you in specific Medicare plans.
Not affiliated with any government agency.
The Clearing is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or connected to Medicare, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), the Social Security Administration (SSA), or any federal, state, or local government program or agency. We are an independent, privately funded education organization. Nothing on this site should be read as official government communication or guidance.
Not medical advice.
Nothing on joinclearing.com — including the Sunday Clearing, the Medicare Library, and Fern — is medical advice. We are not a healthcare provider. We do not diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any disease or condition. For medical questions, talk to a licensed clinician who knows your history. If you are in crisis or believe you may be, please call or text 988, or call 911.
Not financial advice.
Nothing here is financial, investment, tax, retirement, insurance, or estate-planning advice. We are not a registered investment adviser, broker-dealer, insurance agent, accountant, or tax professional. For decisions with real money on the line, please work with a licensed professional in your state who can look at the full picture of your situation.
Not legal advice.
Nothing here is legal advice. We are not a law firm and no one writing here is acting as your attorney. Laws vary by state and by circumstance. For legal questions — including Medicare appeals, estate documents, powers of attorney, advance directives, and any dispute — please consult a licensed attorney.
Our tools think with what you share.
Fern and any future guides we build are AI-based thinking partners. Their output is based only on what you share with them in the moment. They do not have access to your medical chart, your financial accounts, your legal records, or your state's specific rules unless you describe them. They can be wrong. They can miss context. They should be used to clarify your questions, not to make your decisions.
No professional relationship.
Using joinclearing.com, subscribing to the Sunday Clearing, reading a guide, or interacting with Fern does not create a provider-patient relationship, an advisor-client relationship, an attorney-client relationship, or any other professional relationship between you and The Clearing or Dan League. Anything you share with us is not privileged communication.
You assume the risk of your decisions.
Any decision you make after reading or using anything on this site is yours. You agree that you alone are responsible for those decisions and their outcomes. We are not liable for actions you take — or don't take — on the basis of material you encounter here.
How we are funded.
The Clearing is funded by the people who use it — through memberships and the sale of educational materials, not commissions. No insurer, broker, carrier, or plan pays us anything, and nothing we publish is shaped by what you decide to enroll in. We do not sell insurance, recommend or compare specific plans or carriers, or earn referral fees of any kind. That independence is the whole point: when no one is paying us to point you anywhere, the guidance can answer to you.
A note on our point of view.
“Plan-neutral” and “evidence-led” mean two different things, and we use both deliberately. Plan-neutral means we sell no plan and push none — we have no financial stake in what you choose. Evidence-led means we have a point of view based on the data: for most people, Traditional Medicare with a Medigap supplement tends to offer more predictability over time than Medicare Advantage. That is an educational observation about a general approach, not a recommendation of any specific plan, carrier, or product. Leaning toward a general approach is not the same as telling you what to buy. That decision belongs with you and a licensed agent or a SHIP counselor.
Third parties.
We may link to, mention, or summarise third-party resources — government sites, articles, companies, tools. We don't control those resources and we don't guarantee their accuracy, availability, or continued existence. Their terms and privacy practices are their own.
